The real reason your hormones are a mess in your 30’s…
I was on the phone with a woman last week who was echoing something I’ve heard so many times before (and have experienced myself).
She is 43.
Her labs show that her progesterone levels are starting to decline, so her OB prescribed progesterone.
She felt better for the first 2 months, and then her moods started to tank again.
Low mood, anxiety, insomnia and irritability started to creep back in until 10 days before her cycle.
She was ready to throw in the towel and just accept that this was how things were going to be as she got older… until she understood WHY that was happening.
We did a full assessment and it turned out her digestion was also a mess. She was having bloating, heartburn, and alternating constipation and diarrhea. All symptoms her doctor ignored.
Why does this matter?
Because you cannot make progesterone if your gut is a mess.
Progesterone, when made appropriately in the gut, communicates to the brain to then RECEIVE the progesterone via receptors throughout the body.
Think about this like a game of telephone: If the receiver is broken because of poor gut health, then no matter how much supplementation you use to provide progesterone, its not going to get to where it needs to go.
Broken gut = Broken progesterone receptors = pms, irritability, noise sensitivity, and anxiety before your cycle.
What we need to start focusing on is:
Nervous system regulation- not just stress reduction, they are not the same thing
Comprehensive digestive support which means not just probiotic usage but how we are chewing our feed, when we are eating, how much, and what foods to support the entire digestive process that’s causing your painful symptoms.
